Identifying my enemy which was myself was the first step into bettering myself and cultivating a path towards a bright future. People love to blame other people or forces for their own failure, myself included. We just can’t come to terms that maybe the issue is ourselves, maybe we aren’t perfect.
My Issue
Coming into highschool, I was unmotivated. I didn’t care about assignments or tests or grades or much of anything regarding my education. Everytime I made a bad grade in a class or on a test. I always had an excuse and blamed something other than myself. I believe what caused this was seeing unmotivation from other people and thinking to myself, “If they don’t care, why should I?” and that mentality hurt me so bad. I am still recovering from how it ruined my highschool GPA to this day.
Identify My Enemy (Myself)
I will never forget the day I sat in my 9th grade engineering class and listened to a lecture about the future and life in general. It changed my life. Long story short, I realized my actions now, early in highschool, can have a big impact on how I end up in life. I began to despise my grades in all my classes. That’s when I realized that the issue was myself. From that point on I tried my best to make up for the lack of effort and get myself on the right track, and that brings me to today.
I learned a lot. I learned that a lot of the time, things that go bad are mostly my fault. I am in control of my life. I also gained a new outlook on life and started seeing through the facade other people up. Realizing they were bringing themselves down too. I still have a long way to go and I don’t think I am better than anyone else but so far I’m proud that I was able to recognize the monster destroying my future was myself. I am proud that I am finally taking the steps forward to change that.
